Safety of electronic cigarettes questioned

March 2nd, 2010

The source of this article was from: http://mybroadband.co.za/blogs/2010/01/14/safety-of-electronic-cigarettes-questioned/

After you read this see my opinions below!

California’s attorney general is seeking to halt the sale of one company’s Electronic Cigarettes in the state, saying they contain dangerous chemicals and are being marketed to children.

State Attorney General Jerry Brown filed suit Wednesday in Alameda County Superior Court against Florida-based Smoking Everywhere Inc., a leading manufacturer of E-Cigarettes.

Brown says the company has no evidence to back up claims their product is safe.

Smoking Everywhere’s devices look like regular cigarettes but are battery-operated and contain cartridges of nicotine. A heater converts the chemical into a vapor.

The company did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration found last year that e-cigarettes contain carcinogens.

End of Article, My turn.

To me this is just typical hypocritical political BS! What are these politicians trying to accomplish? Obviously not trying to help people, they are either just that ignorant or have hidden agendas that side with big tobacco. There are so many groups and politicians that promote not to smoke tobacco, but since the E-Cigarette industry has been growing they have directed their effects against it. I have even see articles with some of these guys stating that E-Cigarettes are worse than traditional cigarettes. Everyone knows how many people die each year from smoking and if they were really interested in helping smokers find a healthier alternative and/or quit smoking, they would support the E-Cigarette industry. If they think that there might be some harmful chemicals in the E-Cig (which just there assumption and lies) than they should put there efforts into fine tuning the e-cig. However their only agenda is to overlook the benefits from it and try to demolish the industry and continue killing people with real cigarettes.

On a slightly different note, from my experience and knowledge of Smoking Everywhere they don’t seem to be the greatest example of an E-Cig company and seem to be very money oriented, but who cares if they are helping people find a healthier alternative and/or quit smoking. Big tobacco is only in it for the money, they knowingly kill people and make a profit from it.

FDA vs E-Cigarettes

March 2nd, 2010

It is a new day we are winning the battle with FDA.

For those who don’t know about the situation with the FDA and Electronic Cigarettes here is a very brief overview.

Early last year when E-Cigs started becoming very popular, the FDA step in and stated that they needed to be approved by the FDA before selling in the USA. They also started confiscating shipments to suppliers and put out a press release warning consumers by stating that they were harmful and worse that real cigarettes. They also confiscated over 50 shipments from two US suppliers NJoy and Smoking Everywhere and ran tests on the products. Then later came out with another press release with their lab report stating that E-Cigarettes were harmful. It was later found that their tests were incomplete and the products were tested incorrectly. Due to their press releases and lab results, many have found and stated in other press releases that the were just being lobbied by Big Tobacco. In August 2007 Smoking Everywhere sued the FDA for confiscating their shipments and there is a lot of data about what was going on the suit which we will not get into here, but here is the latest article.

According to this article http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100114-712528.html?mod=WSJ_latestheadlines ,U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said the FDA doesn’t have authority to regulate electronic cigarettes.

This is great news for all E-Cigarette Smokers, Suppliers and Manufacturers. Thanks to NJoy, Smoking Everywhere and the Electronic Cigarette Association (ECA) for all your hard work in pursuing to Electronic Cigarettes industry stay alive and so we all can experience a healthier life.

Electronic Cigarettes Reduce Cancer Risk

March 1st, 2010

Health New Zealand has gone public with their findings of research into Electronic Cigarettes and have stated that “Cancer risk reduced by E-Cigarettes

New Zealand has, for a long time been inquisitive about electronic cigarettes and is one of the few countries in the world which has investigated deeply the health benefits rather than producing biased and inaccurate reports and banning them. They have spent time studying not only the ingredients involved in the operation of an e-cig but have also probed deeply into what health benefits can be gained from their use.

In a release on their website (http://www.healthnz.co.nz/cancerrisk.htm) they report that “Using e-cigarettes INSTEAD of smoking tobacco cigarettes is bound to reduce the risks of lung cancer, because the cancer-causing gases such as 1,3 butadiene found in the smoke of all cigarette brands, are no longer inhaled.”

“Switching to e-cigarettes with nicotine continued, can be expected to reduce lung cancer risk the same as altogether quitting cigarettes without e-cigarettes.”

“Health New Zealand have been at the forefront of an unbiased electronic cigarette investigation for a long time and to finally feel comfortable enough to put this information into the public domain can only help cement the benefits of e-cigarettes in today’s society. “Health New Zealand is fronted by Dr Murray Laugesen who is New Zealand’s most experienced researcher on smoking policy and cigarettes. He founded Health New Zealand Ltd as his research and consultancy company in 1995, after 18 years as principal medical officer in the Department, (now Ministry) of Health, and Public Health Commission.”

The report also details how Health New Zealand feels the future of electronic smoking should go and asks the question ‘Is the nicotine delivered via the e-cig going to promote cancer in already existing pre-cancerous cells?’ to which the simple answer is “Not likely and not in the next 10 years.”
To progress, the industry needs governments around the world to support Electronic Cigarettes and not be scared of the unknown. These products are still significantly under the radar and rarely get mainstream media attention even though they offer so many benefits to so many different aspects of a user’s life. These products have the potential to save millions of lives every year but because the idea is new, there are very few politicians who will support them, except for governor Schwarzenegger of course who recently vetoed a bill which would have banned the sale of Electronic Cigarettes in California.
